YOUNG LOVE

It's baby-mama drama in Baltimore

Shot for $50,000 with a cast of nonprofessional actors, Baltimore native Matthew Porterfield's 2006 debut Hamilton received praise from The New Yorker's Richard Brody, who called it "one of the most original, moving, and accomplished American independent films in recent years." Done in a quiet, slow-paced style reminiscent of Wendy and Lucy director Kelly Reichardt's, the 65-minute Hamilton concerns two summer days in the lives of Lena, 17, and Joe, 20, young parents struggling to make things work. Catch a rare screening of the film tonight at BAM (wait for the end credits with music by Animal Collective), followed by a Q&A with the director and Brody.
