EASY DOES IT

Nothing frightening here, except his old band name

"I finally got your letter/And your punctuation hit me like a truck"—hey, we like Wussy already. Not enough Ohio drone-rockers pay respect to the almighty semicolon. But this first track ("Little Paper Birds") off 2009's self-titled album was just the apéritif; the entire album moves easily with chill hooks and just enough guitar-and-drum friction, languid under the easy grace between singers Lisa Walker (the downy breeze) and Chuck Cleaver (the gravelly moor, formerly of the Ass Ponys). The quartet is currently working on a follow-up fourth LP to last year's Pazz & Jop fave; may they continue to find life in their misadventures. With the Fervor, Mystery of Two, and Little, Big.
