Can the war in Afghanistan be won? Is electronic publishing changing literature for the worse? Attempting to provide some answers to these questions and more, The London Review of Books, a bimonthly literary and political magazine, presents a series of lectures and discussions at multiple venues in honor of its 30th anniversary. Tonight at the School of Visual Arts, Tariq Ali, a member of the editorial board of the New Left Review, explores "Obama's War," an in-depth look at why he believes America is wasting its time in Afghanistan. On Wednesday, Jacqueline Rose, co-founder of Independent Jewish Voices, gives the lecture "J'accuse: Dreyfus in Our Time," to explore the role the Dreyfus Affair plays in Jewish history. And on April 24, find out what's in store for the future of books when authors Colm Tóibín, James Wood, Andrew O'Hagan, and John Lanchester discuss "The Author in the Age of the Internet" with London Review of Books editor Mary-Kay Wilmers.
