New York’s first community garden the Liz Christy (serving residents since 1973) celebrates the return of its annual Hat Party after construction at a nearby apartment building in 2004 put a temporary hold on the tradition. Sit by the garden's turtle pond in your best chapeau or make one at the event. Enjoy food and drink and bidding in a silent auction for local artists’ work and meals at neighborhood restaurants. The most creative hats win fabulous prizes. Rain date: May 9.
