MEXI-CAN!!

Boycotting Cinco de Mayo to celebrate it the right way

We like getting drunk on tequila and Dos Equis on Cinco de Mayo just as much as the next guy, but you won't find us on pub crawls or wearing sombreros and the like to commemorate a holiday that doesn't really even exist in Mexico. Instead, 5 de Gallo HyperMex Dance Party vows to celebrate the Mexican culture—New York–style! The party features music by our favorite tropical dance party, Que Bajo!?, founded by DJs Geko Jones and Uproot Andy to showcase local musicians and tastemakers. The theme this year is "Hyper-Mexican"—or, in other words, picture Tron meets mariachis with fluorescent colors, spaceship cumbia, and glowsticks. Now that's how Mexicans really throw a party.
