The latest in a seven-generation line of great Hindustani sitarists, Shujaat Khan spent his teenage years as an itinerant rock guitarist and filmi cover artist. Now one of the world's best sitarists in the vocal-influenced gayaki ang style, he emerged from the shadow of his famous father, Ustad Vilayat Khan, in 2004 with The Rain, a collaboration of Silk Road musicians. Abhiman Kaushal, who has performed with Ravi Shankar and can be heard on the soundtrack for National Geographic's documentary Man Eaters of North India, accompanies him on tabla.
