Would New York be half as good without its daring downtown theater scene? Of course not! So, for the next couple of nights, you—along with celebrity guests—can show your support for two very worthy NYC institutions. First, tonight, is American Fiction: Loved, Banned, and Mythologized, a benefit for the nearly-20-year-old theater group Elevator Repair Service, with cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, and celebrity readers Fred Armisen, Lili Taylor, Frances McDormand, and Frankie Faison. Tuesday is avant-garde theater P.S.122’s Spring Gala 2010, honoring John Leguizamo, with honorary chairs Claire Danes and director Baz Luhrmann, and special guests including John Turturro, Spike Lee, and Rosie Perez. ‘American Fiction’ tonight at 6:30, New York Society for Ethical Culture, 2 West 64th Street, $50–$500; ‘P.S.122’s Spring Gala 2010’ Tuesday at 6, Abrons Arts Center, 466 Grand Street, $200 and up
Mon., May 3, 6:30 p.m.; Tue., May 4, 6 p.m., 2010
