ALL U WANT

LCD Soundsystem play Terminal 5

The homecoming concert series by DFA disco dork and reigning dance-floor kingpin James Murphy’s flagship project LCD Soundsystem marks the proper release of his third album, This Is Happening, after a high-profile and much-lamented mid-April leak. For the most part, it’s just a slight restatement of the same elements that made 2007’s immaculate Sound of Silver so appealing: danceable party-pop built from bold electronic sounds, crowd-sing-along chants, and inner-monologue half-raps with kooky references to things like FACT Magazine and, uh, Michael Musto. Sure, “All I Want” might staple heart to sleeve in a confessional rock lament that’s halfway to emo, but don’t worry about Murphy bringing you down—songs with titles such as “Drunk Girls” and “Pow Pow” are every bit as deliciously pointless as they sound.
