Buffalo Tom

Buffalo Tom weren't the band that blew up via a thousand zines, or the spur for a flurry of SASE's sent off to Massachusetts. But throughout the '90s, the trio did engage a steady and fervent audience with a sound that tempered insight and emotional tug with fits of Boston-style guitar caterwaul. That audience was ready to welcome them back when Three Easy Pieces, Tom's first record since 1998's Smitten, appeared in the summer of 2007. The band's sound might make even more sense now, alongside such melodic indie dudes as the National and the Hold Steady. With a second, later show added tonight, New York is clearly in agreement. With Mean Creek.
