To some, red lipstick represents sex and boldness, but to the women and girls who are forced to wear red lipstick while being sold as slaves, it signifies a death trap. The Lipstick Portraits is a series of photographs by Michael Angelo of celebrities including Susan Sarandon, Dita Von Teese, Daryl Hannah, Selita Ebanks, and Alan Cumming, who have marked themselves with red lipstick to bring attention to the millions of young women and children sold into prostitution each year all over the world. All of the proceeds from this exhibition will go to the Somaly Mam Foundation, a nonprofit public charity committed to ending modern-day slavery around the world.
Tuesdays-Saturdays, 12-6 p.m. Starts: May 8. Continues through May 23, 2010
