Televangelist Jimmy Swaggart provided us with many touching moments, most notably soliciting the attention of a prostitute, which he admitted in his famed “I Have Sinned” speech. But nearly 20 years before that particular scandal broke, Swaggart had stood before a crowd of 1,500 Arkansas parishioners and urged them to “Get Mad at Sin!” Performance artist Andrew Dinwiddie has obtained a recording of this oration and will re-create it verbatim for the much smaller and rather more secular audiences that crowd the Chocolate Factory Theater. In shirt sleeves, tie, and a sheen of perspiration, Dinwiddie will urge them to turn against “entertainment, rock and roll music, sex, and a host of other problems that beset our youth today.”
