The Juche Idea

Dir. Jim Finn (2008). The solitary vanguard of a post-Communist Communist cinema, Jim Finn’s low-budget features are fastidious, jerry-built re-creations of an ideological fantasyland. Although generally hilarious, these movies are closer to pastiche than parody; the latest, concerning the North Korean ethos of national self-sufficiency, travesties as it embodies the principles articulated by Kim Jong Il in “The Birth of Juche-Oriented Cinema Art.”
Thursdays-Sundays, 7 p.m.; Mon., May 31, 7 p.m.; Tue., June 1, 7 p.m. Starts: May 27. Continues through May 30, 2010
