Pete Robbins’ Silent Z

He finds non-contrived uses for spacey guitar gambits, chattering drum storms, and kaleidoscopic melodies, and his new live disc is snapshot of six people dedicated to one goal. The fact that his alto sax flits wisely through this rich mélange is even more impressive. At one point Robbins’ horn feels like Paul Westerberg’s voice on “Bastards of Young” – both plaintive and pissed.
