'Rocks Off Concert Cruises Presents RANA'

RANA never got their due. Too jammy for indie kids (even the reconstructed ones who like the Dead) and too circumspect for hippies (even the enlightened ones who dig Yo La Tengo), the New Jersey quartet's closest analogue might be the epic sonic truthiness of Lenny Kaye. The short version: hooky songwriting, ripping guitar, occasional telepathic jams. They're in grown-up occasional reunion mode these days, but it shouldn't be too hard for the members to swing back into their lazy, hazy propulsion, especially on Rocks Off's boat cruise, founded for a 2001 RANA gig and still the most literally refreshing venue in town.
