'Rocks Off Concert Cruises Presents the Budos Band'

These Staten Island wild men create enchantingly loopy, layered instrumentals with funky blasts of brass. Their best moments lock guitar and keyboard tidbits with such tasteful simplicity, it all almost seems easy. They still trail distantly behind Daptone Records flagship act Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, but it's time to put an end to that now that Afrobeat is on Broadway. Too bad those jittery car chase sequences from blaxploitation flicks are a thing of the past; these guys could make a living on those soundtracks.
