THE DEEP END

Take a literary leap into NYC's waterways

Judging by the MOMA's Rising Currents exhibit, New York might be underwater sooner than we think. So perhaps to get folks mentally prepared for the imminent flooding, Nicki Pombier Berger has founded Underwater New York, an online anthology of stories, art, and music inspired by what goes on underneath New York City's waters. Today, a fantastic group of writers read from their original water-inspired works: Ed Park (Personal Days), Jennifer Egan (A Visit From the Goon Squad), Nelly Reifler (See Through: Stories), Saïd Sayrafiezadeh (When Skateboards Will Be Free: A Memoir), and Deb Olin Unferth (Vacation). Also on the program, Ben Greenman, an editor at The New Yorker, stages an "Underwater Letter-Writing Activity," and Michael Hearst, of One Ring Zero, provides the tunes.
