The arrival of French bassist Joëlle Lèandre in the West Village also guarantees attention to her instrument's extended language. Abstraction is her vernacular, and together with fellow bassists Mark Helias and Mark Dresser, she will whip up some spontaneous improv that boasts rumbling drones, dashing pizzicato, and mud-jumping thumps—a lotta low register chatter for a tiny room. For the second set, Helias and Dresser go it together as the Marks Brothers.
