SMOOTH MOVE

Artists groove to the same beat in different ways

If you foolishly forgot to bring your demo to music mogul Damon Dash’s opening party for his brand-new art gallery in February, here’s your chance to get up close. Tonight’s the opening for the gallery’s latest installation, Kinetic, which brings together a group of artists—Peter Weiss, Tal Hadad, Beau Bradbury, Joe Diebes, Gregory Coates, Serkan Ozkaya, Shani Peters, Andrew Russell Thomas, and Nyssa Frank—who aim to uniquely show off their notion of motion. Highlights include 200 sheets of paper made to look as if they’re blowing throughout the gallery’s tight quarters; a sonic component sculpture that provides an audio feedback loop between an array of speakers and a microphone on the end of a swinging pendulum; and, for some turn-of-the-century fun, an old-fashioned flying machine. Opening party at 6.
Tuesdays-Saturdays, noon. Starts: July 1. Continues through July 30, 2010
