GREASE PATROL

Psychobilly invades Gowanus

What’s that sound? Is it the roaring engine of a hot rod we hear? Then it must be time for the fourth annual Psychobilly Luau, a rockin’ gathering of Bettie Page and Elvis look-alikes who, we’re certain, singlehandedly keep the hair-grease business alive and well. Psychobilly is, of course, the melding of rockabilly with hard-driving punk (the Reverend Horton Heat being a prime example). For two days (starting Saturday), you can catch more than a dozen bands with ghoulish names like the Memphis Morticians, the Swinging Neckbreakers, and the Stellar Corpses. Chow down on BBQ and then feast your eyes on the psychobilly fashion show and burlesque dancers; plus a book signing with retro pin-up photographer Viva Van Story.
Sat., July 10, 3 p.m.; Sun., July 11, 3 p.m., 2010
