These two important Finnish female folk-experimentalists should deliver a long, strange evening of nature-rooted weirdness. Laura Naukkarinen's 2008 album, Nuukuu, is a sparse psychedelic meditation on motherhood and solitude. She's also been composing new soundtracks to modernist masterpieces such as Dziga Vertov's Man With a Movie Camera. Jonna Karanka, a/k/a Kuupuu, works in a variety of media. She also strums an upside-down guitar while incanting softly shamanic folk tunes accompanied, at various times, by bass, harmonium, xylophone, and various other glitch-friendly accoutrements of sound.
