The Dave Matthews Band, genial lapdogs of many a music snob (and the only punchline when Hootie simply won't suffice), are coming up on their 20-year anniversary as excellent musicians and purveyors of vagina allusions, so everyone should give them the gift of a little R-E-S-P-E-C-T already. Sources tell us that DM is quite the badass in real life, a substance-swilling dark knight straight from a Raymond Chandler novel, and his troupe's musicianship has been solidly knit since 1994's Under the Table and Dreaming. Last year's Big Whiskey & the GrooGrux King was a tribute to departed, longtime saxophonist LeRoi Moore and also a pensive return to their jam-band roots. Drop the charade, oh, detached ones, and let them in. Don't be scared. It's OK to love.
