HAUNTED MUSEUM

Beirut go perfectly with the Guggenheim's new exhibit

Zach Condon's local gypsy-folk ensemble Beirut opens the Guggenheim's thee-part Dark Sounds live-music series, which runs this summer in conjunction with a new exhibition at the museum called Haunted: Contemporary Photography/Video/Performance. According to the museum's website, the series (which also includes upcoming shows by Andrew Bird and the Cinematic Orchestra) aims "to evoke the exhibition's elements of melancholy, ghostliness, the uncanny, and our collective and individual obsession with accessing the past." That's a job to which Condon's music—with its globe-tripping nostalgia for an age, indeed a number of ages, he didn't actually experience—seems well suited.
