SKIN DEEP

Playboy centerfolds and a scary look at the beauty industry

Find some answers at this evening of three rarely screened documentaries on the beauty industry: Daisy: The Story of a Facelift (1982), which shows a middle-aged woman's actual cringe-inducing medical procedure in the early days of cosmetic surgery; An Image (1982), a 26-minute behind-the-scenes look at a Playboy centerfold photo shoot in Munich; and Youth Knows No Pain (2009), director Mitch McCabe's exploration of the $60-billion-a-year anti-aging industry in America and her own experiences growing up with a plastic-surgeon father.
