The New York International Latino Film Festival, now in its 11th year, always brings the latest in emotionally and politically heavy dramas and documentaries that star our favorite Latino actors, directors, and writers. This year, the festival opens with The Dry Land, starring America Ferrera, Wilmer Valderrama, and Jason Ritter in a story about a soldier back from Iraq who struggles to cope with life as a husband and son in a small Texas town. Other highlights include the action film Gun, written by and starring 50 Cent as a gun runner in Detroit who reconnects with his ex-con buddy played by Val Kilmer, and El Traspatio (Backyard), Mexico's official submission to the 2010 Academy Awards, which stars Jimmy Smits and Juan Carlos Barreto in a story about the Juárez murder investigations and the city's corrupt police and indifferent population.
