One of the creepiest May-December romances of all time gets screen time tonight when the New York City Parks Department plays Sunset Boulevard in front of an actual Hudson River sunset on a West Village rooftop. The story in Billy Wilder's 1950 noir is so L.A.: failing screenwriter becomes rent boy for forgotten silent film actress, taking up residence in her lavish mansion, giving her passionate kisses at the stroke of midnight, and getting murdered by the pool. But there is one great New York connection: Gloria Swanson's performance as the washed-up starlet inspired slews of drag queens in the decades to come.
