One Life Stand found Hot Chip embracing both old-school acid and phone-it-in-era Nilsson and, not surprisingly, it resulted in a schizophrenic disc that swung wildly from fist-pumping to painfully sincere to meh. Thankfully, their legendary live sets are heavy on that first characteristic, and all those songs we were ambivalent about on disc should be jiggered into proving just how wrong we are. After being unceremoniously dumped by EMI after their debut, we've heard little out of Hercules and Love Affair and hope that tonight's first live performance will give a tantalizing peek at where they're heading next. With Holy Ghost! Benefit for the Summerstage Festival.
