SAMBA/SCREEN KING

Seu Jorge strikes on all fronts

In Brazil, he is a holy revivalist of samba, the alchemist from Belford Roxo who upended the traditional genre into smooth contemporary pop for his generation. In America, he is best known as the badass with the funny hat in Wes Anderson's The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou, for which he also composed the soundtrack of Portuguese covers of Bowie songs. So, in two countries, Seu Jorge is cooler than everyone else (how bueno for him) and his inventive samba albums (especially 2007's América Brasilo Disco) are sexy, endlessly confident reflections of that charisma. Tonight, he performs with his band Almaz, but expect all eyes on him; he's one smooth operator, and not just in his croon. Expect the lot of Terminal 5 to defect to Brazil by Saturday.
