WALK THIS WAY

Exploring Brighton Beach

Folks often complain about how noisy New York City is—as if it were a bad thing. But to Todd Shalom, the producer and director of the Elastic City walking tours, all those sounds—the sirens wailing, the taxis honking, the music blaring—are a part of what make the city beautiful. Today, he'll give you a new appreciation for the streets of Brighton Beach on his 90-minute Brighton Zaum tour. Without cell phones or talking, you'll be required to simply listen to the "soundscape" of this bustling Russian community via experimental poetry exercises. By the end, you'll likely never hear the city the same way again.
Meet outside of Fruit City, at Brighton Beach Avenue and 7th Street, Brooklyn
