Westfront 1918

Dir. G.W. Pabst (1931). Although one of the few great movies made about World War I, Pabst’s first sound film is a largely unknown masterpiece—at least as audio-innovative as Fritz Lang’s M in its existential battle sequences, thudding sense of the material world, and close-to-overlapping dialogue.
Wednesdays-Fridays, 1:30 p.m. Starts: Aug. 4. Continues through Aug. 6, 2010
