The propulsive drummer hasn't toured in a decade. His new album, Anomaly, mixes the jazz-rock heat of his Return to Forever days with some odd r&b ballads (one of which editorializes Africa's water crisis). Guitarist Jimmy Herring often sounded as though he were practicing for this quintet's gig during a recent appearance with his main group, Southern improv-rock titans Widespread Panic.
