This week more than any other, P.S.1’s Warm Upseries lives up to its curatorial promise, presenting locals who mine the arty sonic spaces at dance music’s borders. Peter Zummo served with the DownTown Ensemble and recorded with the late, great master of abstract disco, Arthur Russell. This afternoon, the composer and multi-instrumentalist (and Wesleyan ethnomusicology grad) leads his own group, the Peter Zummo Ensemble, as he shows off his long-drone style on the trombone and euphonium. Also on the bill, Peter Gordon & Love of Life Orchestra; Gordon channeled the inspirations of Mills College and Steven Reich into collaborations with Russell, too, and with Laurie Anderson—and into records beloved by DFA’s James Murphy. With DJ sets from postrock Canadians Glissandro 70, and another DFA pal, Beats in Space’s ever-enjoyable Tim Sweeney.
