A choreographer takes advantage of the heat wave
When not choreographing music videos (such as Feist’s “1234”) or David Byrne’s world tour, the New York-based Noémie Lafrance is busy dreaming up site-specific performances in the most unusual places. She’s created her bold experimental pieces everywhere from McCarren Park Pool, to a parking garage, to the 12-story stairwell of a city court building. Tonight, she takes over the Salt Pile, an industrial site used by the city to store salt under the Manhattan Bridge, for MELT, a surreal piece in which seven dancers, balanced on seats affixed to a wall, move their bodies while their costumes made of beeswax and lanolin slowly drip and melt away. Hot!
