The Left-Handed Woman

Dir. Peter Handke (1977). Wim Wenders’ longtime collaborator, Peter Handke directed this adaptation from his novella in a Wenders manner. The movie is terse without seeming minimalist, intelligent but not pedantic, affirmative but unsentimental. Edith Clever plays a married woman who decides that she wants to be alone—her impassivity is more dynamic that the tics and tricks of a dozen lesser performers.
