Already drained by the fanged phenomenon of sometimes-sexy, occasionally Mormon bloodsucking tweens, current pop culture seems at a real loss for some feisty vampires who won’t also propose marriage. Flashback to 1994, where, with more innuendo than True Blood and more gratuitous angst than Twilight(it’s possible), attending junior prom is the last thing on the minds of Michael Almereyda’s stylish Gen-X vampires in Nadja. In the director’s lush New York City remake of 1936’s Dracula’s Daughter, the young Ms. Dracula travels to Brooklyn upon her father’s death in order to reunite her estranged clan. The aesthetically minded film was produced, very obviously so, by David Lynch who makes a cameo, and features Peter Fonda as a washed-up Van Helsing, not to mention a nostalgia-inducing soundtrack by My Bloody Valentine and Portishead. It screens tonight as part of the Bela Lugosi’s Dead, Vampires Live Forever series, followed by a Q&A with Almereyda.
