OH, BOY!

Cody Critcheloe brings Kansas City to the Big Apple

When you see Kansas City–based art rocker Cody Critcheloe and his Fu Manchu mustache coming, you’d be wise to step aside. Leader of the queer punk performance art band SSION, Crticheloe is known his outlandish stage shows (complete with out-of-this-world costumes and scantily clad dancers) and belting out excellently titled sex jams such as “Street Jizz.” Now, in honor of his new feature film BOY, a disco-fueled mockumentary about his life as a small-town punk who dreams of becoming a star, Critcheloe is bringing his super group and Kansas City special guests costume designer Peggy Noland and artist Jaimie Warren to the Hole for an exhibition of videos, paintings, drawings, and installations. If you can’t make Thursday’s (August 26) opening, at the end of the exhibit’s run, Noland will put on a runway show in honor of Fashion Week on September 10, and SSION will perform at the closing party on September 11.
Tuesdays-Saturdays, 12-6 p.m. Starts: Aug. 26. Continues through Sept. 11, 2010
