Ralph White & Susan Alcorn

Ralph White, one-third of the legendary Austin bluegrass-punk trio Bad Livers, makes his first trip to New York in four years. While ex-Liver Danny Barnes has been jamming with the Dave Matthews Band, White has stayed strictly underground, turning out a series of positively stunning LPs anchored by White's haunting Anthology of American Folk Music-esque warble, including the recent The Mongrel's Hoard. But White's secret weapon is the potent, pleasing combination of kalimba and banjo, the former's warm flutter of notes syncopating with the latter's flurried twang--the perfect companion for the ever-questing pedal steel of Susan Alcorn.
