Dir. Hans-Jurgen Syberberg (1977). Seldom revived thanks to its monumental length, Syberbergs deconstruction of the Nazi aesthetic was one of the great film controversiesas well as the great filmsof the 1970s. Its both madly baroque and stringently minimal, solemn and absurdist, a brilliant rant, and a monument of knowingly kitsch grandeur.
