Hitler: A Film From Germany

Dir. Hans-Jurgen Syberberg (1977). Seldom revived thanks to its monumental length, Syberberg’s deconstruction of the Nazi aesthetic was one of the great film controversies—as well as the great films—of the 1970s. It’s both madly baroque and stringently minimal, solemn and absurdist, a brilliant rant, and a monument of knowingly kitsch grandeur.
Sat., Sept. 11, 2 p.m.; Sun., Sept. 12, 2 p.m., 2010
