If you only know him as someone who tears shit up--which he does in some of the fiercest and most eloquent ways possible--you might be surprised by the new Silent Movies. The guitarist is just as convincing with delicacy, and these pithy features for solo strings hark to the nuanced thrills of his Don't Blame Me peaks while alluding to some Fahey and Blackshaw alleyways. Melodically, there's poignancy galore, and at various junctures it feels like you can see what he sees on his cerebral silver screen.
