BEST IN (SECOND) SHOW

A false start still meant great things for these Danes

Jangly, gangly pop rockers Bettie Serveert have quite the flickering attention span: They formed in 1986 and disbanded after one show, only to reunite four years later. (Even their aural twins, Sebadoh, kept it together better than that.) That attempt stuck, fortunately, through their 1992 debut Palomineand their still-rising yet modest commercial popularity in their native Amsterdam. They're also the best band on the best soundtrack for a film no one ever saw, 2000's Dean Quixote. And they're a solid act in the best venue you've never schlepped across a river to visit. With the Art of Shooting.
