EARTHLY DELIGHTS

Jon Stewart takes on the world

First, he quipped and punned circles around the cable-news media. Then he rewrote our national history . . . possibly with more accuracy. Then he grew a beard, but that didn't work out. So therefore, the next venture in the unfolding legacy of the most trusted man in news is (obviously) world domination. With no shortage of ambition, Jon Stewart's Earth (The Book): A Visitor's Guide to the Human Race follows the same textbook format of its predecessor, America (The Book), but sets out to cover a slightly longer—oh, say, about 4.5 billion years longer—historical period. Written as a reference for the aliens who will inevitably inherit the planet after we've gas-guzzled and oil-spilled and Big Mac'ed our way right out of existence, the book addresses all the essential fixtures of humanity, like love, food, and Larry King. Stewart will outline his plan tonight during a reading and discussion.
