Dir. Abel Ferrara (1995). A black-and-white, Lower Manhattan-set, revisionist vampire saga, Abel Ferrara's rap-scored, sumptuously shot, sin-obsessed opus establishes an acute, at times lacerating, tension between visual pleasure and narrative scuzz. The movie ponders the mystery of existence by reveling in splatterific materialismnoisy ERs and bloody bandages, the messy minutiae of urban vampirism. You might call it a vision.
