This summer, we were excited to read about the 32-foot wooden ship’s hull that workers found at the World Trade Center site—though we were left with a pile of questions. A Historic Hull on Hallowed Ground: Three Experts Discuss the 200-Year-Old Ship Next Door will perhaps get to the bottom of these queries, such as what else did they find and what are they planning to do with these remnants? Archaeologist Michael Pappalardo, whose firm is leading the excavation, will discuss the ship, along with Norman Brouwer, formerly the chief maritime historian at the South Street Seaport Museum, who will present images of this ship and other ones discovered underground in New York, while conservator, Nichole Doub explains how her team is stabilizing the ship’s remains and discusses options for preserving these relics.
