Protest the killing of dolphins in Japan
The 2009 Academy Award–winning documentary The Cove effectively brought to light the inhumane slaughter of dolphins by the Japanese. Japan Dolphin Day 2010 is a rally around the world that aims to end the cruel practice of dolphin-drive fisheries. According to rally organizers, the Japanese government issues 23,000 permits annually to coastal communities to kill dolphins of several species. The majority of the pod is then slaughtered for meat, which is allegedly contaminated with huge amounts of mercury and other pollutants, exceeding the Japanese government’s own health limits. Today’s rally will be held in front of Japanese embassies and consulates around the world—make your presence heard.
