Dir. Yasujiro Ozu (1959).  Ozu’s color quasi remake of his classic silent comedy I Was Born But… (1932) is one of the oddest and most revealing movies in his oeuvre—a purposefully vulgar of postwar Japan’s new consumer society with underlying affinities to ‘50s Tashlin and Tati and, among other things, it has two schoolboys going on a “silence strike” until their parents buy a TV set.
