The mainstream elders who drive this outfit (Billy Harper, Eddie Henderson, Billy Hart, George Cables, and Cecil McBee) boast a muscular approach to the blues, and their physical attack on post-hard-bop architecture on Warriorshas little problem rattling walls. Goosed by the brass and reeds of David Weiss and Craig Handy, they make their way to an ornery lyricism that sends a message: experience counts.
