DEATH BECOMES HER

Edward Anthony’s Wish I Had a Sylvia Plath

Dying is an art like anything else. Does Esther Greenwood do it especially well? In Edward Anthony’s play, Greenwood, the heroine of Plath’s semi-autobiographical novel The Bell Jar, invites the audience to her suicide. In the course of the play she cooks lasagna, satirizes her poet husband, and prepares for a date with a gas oven.
