Back in the mid-'80s, we filed this downtown big band under the heading of exemplary experiment but, in the two decades since their New World Records discs dropped, the ensemble's legend has resonated strongly. Keybster/composer Wayne Horvitz is curating an ambitious month-long series at the school right now, and celebrating its 25th anniversary is the provocative large ensemble who's principals stretch from saxophonist Marty Ehrlich to French horn player Tom Varner to drummer Bobby Previte to Horvitz himself. Nuggets such as "The House That Brings a Smile" and "Pliant Plaint" will be sweet to bump into again.
