Deadmau5 – pronounced either “dead mouse” or “what the hell is that?” – prides himself on cartoonish extravagance onstage; the Toronto, Ontario producer (born Joel Thomas Zimmerman) dons an exaggerated, auf’d mouse head onstage that resembles the Radiohead scissor-toothed bear, except so much creepier. He also happens to make some of the deepest, most intriguing progressive house and neo-trance of the day, and is always good for a quote that insults everyone in a 10-kilometer radius, which doesn’t diminish his three Juno Awards in as many years. Well played, you veritable lunatic.
