Swanlights, Antony and the Johnsons' fourth studio release, is as formlessly gorgeous and morbidly excogitative as anything to seep bare from frontman Antony Hegarty—and this was his attempt at a happier album, to hear him tell it. But as close as he brings us to the ledge, the untoward, off-kilter majesty of his Arthur Russell–esque mewl and the dense complications of his chamber-pop backing make him a reliably spectral experience, one that enriches as it becomes an anchor to some unwelcome thoughts. Then again, he's never trilled quite so happily as "I'm in Love"—perhaps this is a true first step to his happier future, but we'll gladly take more of his affliction. Tonight, the group performs with the Orchestra of St. Luke's, conducted by Rob Moose, as part of Lincoln Center's spiritual world music White Light Festival.
