Most entertaining when they're mocking alt-rock affectations with seriously epic affectations of their own, the Dandys are taking a squandered-victory lap in conjunction with a new Capitol Records (1995-2007) compilation. Expect them to hijack your attention by any means necessary. Fronted by Viva Voce's Kevin and Anita Robinson, Portland's Blue Giant is an indie-country combo with steel-guitar veracity, earthy aspirations, and at least one sweet Byrds cover.
